EPA Moves To Update Emissions 'Factors' For Oil And Gas Drilling Sector

EPA has agreed to update old emissions "factors" - estimates of air pollution - from natural gas drilling operations, moving to settle a lawsuit brought by environmentalists who charge that the factors are years out of date and result in serious underestimates of pollution that could lead to weaker emissions control strategies for the sector. In a proposed consent decree lodged Oct. 7 with U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, Air Alliance Houston, Community In-Power and Development Association, Louisiana Bucket Brigade and Texas Environmental Justice Advocacy Services propose to settle a lawsuit they filed only a day earlier over the issue.
