摘要

EPA science advisors are faulting the agency's plan to use a controversial study of human exposure to a commonly-used pesticide to tighten oversight of the chemical, arguing that relying on a single epidemiological study is "premature and possibly inappropriate" and backing pesticide industry criticism that EPA has not adequately vetted the plan. EPA earlier this year convened a Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act Science Advisory Panel (SAP) to gain support for its plan to shift oversight of chlorpyrifos from protecting against inhibition of the enzyme acetylcholinesterase (AChE) in the nervous system to protecting against neurodevelopmental effects, which may occur at lower levels of exposure.
