The House Energy & Commerce (E&C) Committee has approved largely along party lines comprehensive environmental legislation to address per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), with Democrats beating back GOP attempts to exempt a range of manufacturers, products and water utilities from the bill's various regulatory requirements. But a key supporter of the bill says an amendment seeking to exempt medical device and drug manufacturers from various requirements, which failed in committee, could be reconsidered as a possible means to win bipartisan support for any companion bill in the Senate. The full committee June 23 voted 33-20 to approve H.R. 2467, the PFAS Action Act, with three Republicans -Reps. Fred Upton (R-MI), one of the bill's lead sponsors; David McKinley (R-WV), the E&C environment subcommittee chairman; and Richard Hudson (R-NC) - voting to support the legislation.
