BLM Admits 'Error,' Will Not Defend Obama-Era Oil & Gas Methane Rule

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will not defend its rule aimed at limiting venting and flaring of the potent greenhouse gas methane from oil and gas operations on federal lands, with litigation over the Obama-era measure revived after the Trump administration's recission of the standards was vacated last month. BLM in an Aug. 18 supplemental merits response brief in State of Wyoming, et ah, v. U.S. Department of the Interior, et ah, in the U.S. District Court for the District of Wyoming asks the court to vacate its own rule.
