Transforming Business Applications for the 21st Century

Many companies rely on legacy software applications that were written in out-of-date programming languages, are difficult to use by modem standards, and furthermore will run only on obsolete or near-obsolete hardware and operating systems. The challenge of modernizing these applications progressively worsens as the staff most familiar with them leave the company or retire. Many in-house or custom applications were written in older programming languages such as COBOL or FORTRAN, often with only a textual user interface or basic graphical user interface.
