Major contracts in oil and gas

While crude oil and gas remain the main export income earners for the Gulf states, the contribution from downstream processing has been increasing. Petrochemicals at present account for 20% of the manufacturing sector in the Gulf Cooperation Council states Saudi Arabia, Oman, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait, and in 2005 the GCC countries invested nearly US$30 billion in new petrochemical projects.
