AusAid project in Mekong Delta

Australian engineers are helping improve water and sanitation in three Vietnamese towns. The Three Delta Towns project is providing water supply, drainage, wastewater and solid waste infrastructure for three towns located in the delta of the Mekong river: Bac Lieu (population 130,000), Sa Dec (population 110,000) and Ha Tien (population 50,000). The towns were selected because of their growing demand for water and sanitation, and potential for economic growth in an environment that is rapidly degrading. GHD corporate manager of international development assistance Robin Povey said there was some existing infrastructure, but it was "totally inadequate" and languished in a state of disrepair.
