Michael Verrier's typical day as an operations support officer at Transcend Networks begins at 8:45am at the electricity transmission utility's offices at Lenah Valley, in Hobart. He starts his day by reviewing the work of colleagues and checking to see if the control room personnel have identified any irregularities with Transcend's energy management system (EMS). He said the EMS involves setup and ongoing maintenance of the state estimator, power flow, contingency analysis and operator training simulator tools. However, he pointed out that one of the most important aspects of the first hour of work is that the forthcoming day's work is properly prioritised and allocated.
