Calibre Engenium has the engineering, procurement and construction management contract for the rail portion of the Rapid Growth Project 5. The project, currently being considered by BHP Billiton, involves building a second 270km track between the Yandi iron ore mine and Port Hedland, and expanding the latter's inner harbour. "The core of the Pilbara is progressively moving to the Yandi/Area C mining hubs. Double tracking the rail to this area will create the rail capacity to support our planned expansion to more than 300Mt/a," president of BHP Billiton Iron Ore Ian Ashby said in February. Calibre Engenium was originally engaged in June 2007 to complete a preliminary engineering study. The company is a project management and engineering consultancy owned by Calibre Rail and Engenium. Currently, work is focusing on procuring long lead times.
