Officer Fellow manages airport operations

Bob calaby began his career as a trainee technical officer with the Australian Survey Office (later the Australian Surveying and Land Information Group or AUSLIG) and commenced studies for a certificate in engineering surveying at Canberra Technical College in 1972. Later that year he was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident resulting in the loss of his right arm. He learnt to write with his left hand and graduated in 1974. At night classes over the next few years he completed the subjects of engineering construction, soil testing, concrete technology, field surveys and sampling and structural principles and was awarded a certificate in civil engineering from the Bruce TAFE College in 1980.
