Running virtual systems

Virtualisation involves simultaneously running several operating systems or virtual machines on a single PC. A virtual machine is essentially software that hides the PC's hardware from the virtual environment by emulating standard PC hardware. The software, including the operating system, runs inside this environment where it is isolated from the host computer and operating system. This is ideal for engineers who develop or test software since any bugs can only affect the virtual environment rather than the host PC. Since engineers have control over the virtual environment (in terms of memory, what hardware is presented and network configuration), it is easy to simulate different types of systems to ensure software compatibility with hardware and operating systems.
