RMIT University communications engineering students can now use a geosynchronous satellite after Perth-based communications company ITC Global donated a 1.8m dish and access to the satellite. The connection allows uplink speeds of 3Mbit/s and 6Mbit/s downlink. Head of Communication Engineering at RMIT, Associate Professor James Scott said the students would be able to send data to the satellite to measure power levels and the performance of the communications link.
