摘要

By the time students are nearing the end of their engineering degrees, the last thing on the minds of most of them is spending another three to four years at uni. They will often have a job lined up before they graduate, whether it be working for a multinational consulting company or the local water board, and will be glad to see the end of their studies at university. So what made a 22 year old woman, freshly graduated from an engineering degree, take the less trodden path towards research and a doctorate? The opportunity to work closely with industry on an interesting and relevant project, flexible working hours, opportunities for travel, being able to drive the direction of the research, and ultimately working on a project that requires a variety of skills and provides many valuable learning experiences along the way.
