The Hydrapede Dolly, a new self-powered trailer that will reduce mine haulage costs, recently won an innovation award at transport firm BIS s best practice conference held in the Hunter Valley.rnAccording to Kerren Smith, the managing director of Gympie-based special-rnist vehicle builder J Smith and Sons, the Hydrapede Dolly provides the transport operator with a unit that can be adapted for use with different types of trailers designed for a variety of products.rn"It can be mixed and matched with side-tip, bottom dump or even rear-tiprntrailers and with trailers with a variety of bin volumes suitable for coal, minerals or concentrates," he said.rnThe dolly has a 450kW Cummins engine and the hydraulic drive supplies the power via an electronically controlled 18-speed gearbox, enabling it to retain the advantages of the high torque required to climb out of pits, but also providing full power through to 75km/h for travel on the flat.
