摘要

The advent of the smart grid will see a large increase in automated data collection. It will become com mon for, power quality (PQ) data to be available on line, using the many existing and proposed PQ instruments. PQ data consists of time stamped numbers represent ing voltage, current, power and energy. These numbers are stored and archived in tabular format, usually in a database. The size of the data can be overwhelming, making it very difficult to inspect and analyse the data. The human brain is much better at seeing patterns in data when it is displayed graphically. For instance, deciding that there is a tiger hiding in the foliage is a pattern recognition, or graphical analysis task to which our brains are adapted, whereas picking this out of the same data organised as a table is very problematical.
