Innovative approach reduces refinery problems in Thailand

Corrosion has always been an inherent problem for oil and gas operators, often costing owners millions of dollars in unplanned shutdowns due to leaking tanks and pipes. One of the largest refineries in Thailand recently experienced metal loss on tank floor plates due to underfloor corrosion even though the plant had been operational for less than ten years. Aurecon was engaged to carry out a detailed investigation during 2007-2008 to determine the underlying cause of corrosion and the mitigation measures available to protect these facilities from further corrosion.
