A portable data centre designed for organisations requiring computing capacity in remote or temporary locations has been launched by IBM. Unveiled late last year in Brisbane, IBM said the centre is ideal for mining and resource companies. The Portable Modular Data Centre (PMDC) is housed within customised standard shipping containers. The fully insulated and sealed containers can be designed, built, shipped and deployed into any environment. IBM said its flexibility meant it could act as a remote, temporary, mobile or private cloud data centre.
