Laser augments Pitot tubes

Researchers from UNSW Canberra have developed a proof-of-concept laser based sensor that can potentially augment existing Pitot tube technology used in airplanes. A Pitot tube is a velocity sensor that works by taking in air passing by the airplane. The gathered data is then processed to let the pilots know how quickly the airplane is moving.
