摘要

With the centenary of the outbreak of World War One (WWI) this month, EA will be hosting a series of presentations throughout Australia to commemorate the contribution made by Australian engineers during 'The Great War'. During WWI a great many facets of engineering were incorporated in the force1s involved in Australia's land, maritime and air military operations. For example, the land forces included field, signal, mining, workshop, railway, survey and training units. Specific engineering units did not exist within the newly formed (1913) Royal Australian Navy (RAN) or the Australian Flying Corps (AFC) at the outbreak of WWI, although there were certainly engineers embarked on Australian warships and aviation mechanics in service with the AFC.
