摘要

It is shown, both experimentally and theoretically, that for single-mode fibres, the (E)ESI (equivalent step index) and MFD methods are interrelated in a self-consistent model with the theoretical cutoff wavelength playing a pivotal role. Three independent measurements approaches are examined: mode-field diameter measurements, preform profile measurements and fibre profile measurements.
