Industry Has Stimulus Hopes Despite Setback in Senate

Advocates of public works suffered a blow when infra-structure programs were cut from Senate Democrats' economic stimulus proposal. Partisan fighting then sank the revised proposal, whose remaining spending components were relabeled "homeland security." The stalemate probably means any hope of resurrecting the measure will have to come from high-level talks between the White House and congressional leaders after the Thanksgiving break. Nevertheless, some observers maintain there's still a chance that highways and maybe other infrastructure sectors may get more money.
