The good times got better for ENR's Top 200 Environmental Firms in 2000, asrnthey somehow managed to add more than $1 billion to their bottom line in a year when major changes in the U.S. economy and political leadership started to point the other way. Staving off the skeptics' anticipated slump for yet another year, Top 200 firms boosted total revenue to nearly $28.9 billion. "The demise of the market was predicted at least five years ago," says joe Hastey, chairman and CEO of Arcadis G&M. "It's fallen off a lot more slowly."
