World-Class Projects Take Plenty of Will Power

Great architecture, engineering and construction projects are not defined by anything as parochial as national borders, but those artificial lines sometimes articulate the national fervor and will to move such projects forward to completion. This issue of ENR's Global Projects showcases three extraordinary projects that are unique for their type in the world―the Millau Bridge in France, a national highspeed rail line in Taiwan and a giant mosque in Abu Dhabi. Each is world-class-defining in its project category for engineering, speed, aesthetics and grandeur. And each has a project delivery method tailored to the political, economic and psychological needs of the people in the respective nations.
