Panama Voters Approve $5.25-Billion Expansion

The extensive overhaul of one of the modern world's greatest engineering achievements has been given the go-ahead by the people of Panama. On Oct. 22, almost 80% of the nation's voters approved a $5.25-billion expansion of the Panama Canal. The project consists of building a third lane of traffic along the existing canal as well as the construction of a new set of locks.
