摘要

A 43.5-kilometer-long hard rock tunnel through one of India's most arid regions will bring potable water for more than a million people. By next year, India's Jaiprakash Associates will begin excavating what Kent, Wash.-based Robbins Co. claims is the world's longest mechanically bored tunnel without intermediate access. The tunnel will be one of two in a project to carry 4,000 cu ft per second of water from the Srisailam Reservoir on the Krishna River to Nalgonda district in Andhra Pradesh state.
