New Mexico Half Way Through Major Diversion Effort

The Buchman Direct Diversion Project will provide a sustainable way for the City of Santa Fe, NM, and Santa Fe County to access surface-water supplies by diverting San Juan-Chama Project water and native Rio Grande water. Design and construction began in September 2008. As of Sept. 1, about 54% of the project's construction budget had been spent, while 54% of construction is complete. Work has begun on the raw-water-diversion structure and lift station to divert water fromrnthe Rio Grande. The project is expected to be operational by March 2011. Project includes five 12-ft dia by 40-ft long horizontal, multi-cell (GAC) granulated activated carbon filters with a 3,000-cu-ft bed of GAC per filter.
