Michael J. Horman, associate professor of architectural engineering at Pennsylvania State University, State College, and a research specialist in lean construction for green buildings, died on Sept. 15 while teaching a graduate course, says the school. He was 38 and suffered a fatal heart attack, say published reports. Horman, who joined the faculty in 2000, was director of the school's Lean and Green Research Initiative, which focuses on high-performance building design and construction, and co-editor of its Journal of Green Building. The Australia native also was assistant specialty editor of the American Society of Civil Engineers' Journal of Construction Engineering and Management and faculty adviser to the Design-Build Institute of America campus student chapter. The school's architectural engineering program was founded in 1910.
