A first-generation U.S. citizen,rnRicardo Zendejas believes wholeheartedly in the American dream. He is the son of Mexican immigrants who had only a grade-school education but who believed education provides opportunity.rnZendejas attended Theodore Roosevelt Senior High School in Boyle Heights, a suburb of east Los Angeles, where most of the roughly 5,000 students were from impoverished, immigrant families and the annual graduation rate at the time was around 70%.
