Public construction got a big boost in April as the market grew 2.4%, according to U.S. Dept. of Commerce's seasonally adjusted annual data (see chart). April's numbers were just 4.4% below April 2009's pace, with the market on track for $303 billion annually. On a year-to-date basis, the dollar value of total public construction through the first four months of the year was $82 billion, which was 5.7% below the same period a year ago (see table).
