DELAWARE Honeywell International is planning to build a renewable-energy biosolids facility in Wilmington. The facility will capture methane produced by anaerobic digesters at the Hay Road Wastewater Treatment Plant and mix it with methane from the nearby Cherry Island Landfill; the result will be used to generate up to 4 MW of electricity to supply the Hay Road plant. The facility also will employ heat from the engines to dry sludge from the plant; this process will reduce the amount of plant sludge by 75%, saving on material-handling costs.
