Ironworker-Built Reinforced Concrete Structure Soars to New Heights

Cast-in-place reinforced concrete construction in New York City is setting a new benchmark on the 432 Park Avenue Project located at 57th Street and Park Avenue. Engineered and designed by Cantor Seinuk Engineering and SLCE Architects, the project will become the tallest residence in the Western Hemisphere when completed. Its elevation will soar to a final height of 1,443 ft to the top of its parapet wall, exceeding the height of WTC 1 by 75 ft. Although Lend Lease is the general contractor, Local 46L (New York) ensures that all the steel for the 432 Park Avenue building goes up in the right place at the right time at the direction of Pat MacCarrick, foreman for Rogers and Sons Concrete, the New York-based concrete contractor. So far, he and his crew of ironworkers on the job have cut, bent and placed over 3,100 tons of rebar, in addition to more than 2,100 tons of SAS threaded bar.
