Public-Works Growth Flattens Out

The U.S. Commerce Dept. has revised upward last May's and June's public construction growth rate to a combined two-month increase of 2.3％,according to Commerce's seasonally adjusted annual data. Public construction held at that level of activity in July, with a seasonally adjusted figure of $269 billion (see chart). On a year-to-date basis, the dollar value of total new public construction put-in-place through the first seven months of 2013 was $147 billion, or 5.3％ below the same period of a year ago. However, this dip was an improvement over the 6.5％ year-to-year decline recorded in June.
