Lumber prices rebounded 0.6% in August after falling 2.8% during the previous two months, according to ENR's 20-city average price for the most commonly used species of 2×4s. This month's upturn helped push ENR's contractor price for lumber 6.6% above 2012's level. The composite mill price index for softwood framing lumber, tracked by Eugene, Ore.-based Random Lengths, posted a 3.3% monthly increase in July. That pushed the composite lumber mill price to $340 per thousand board-ft, which was 5.9% above July 2012's level. Random Lengths' index for panel prices in July was up 1.9% for the year.
