Construction Rebounds After Slow Start to 2013

After starting the year with a 2.1 % decline in the annual rate of total construction put-in-place, construction rebounded 1.2% in February (see chart), according to the U.S. Dept. of Commerce. This uptick put total construction at an annual rate of $884.1 billion, which was 7.9% above February 2012's pace. On a year-to-date basis, total construction put-in-place through the first two months of this year totalled $120.1 billion, which was 6.6% above the same period a year ago.
