HSS Steel Structure Provides 'Clean' Construction for New Chocolate Facility

The first new Mars Chocolate North America manufacturing facility being built in 30 years is under construction in Topeka, Kan., and is employing a significant amount of steel hollow structural sections (HSS) to enhance clean construction techniques being used on the project. Optimal Engineering Services and McCarthy Corp., both of St. Louis, are the engineer of record and general contractor, respectively. The plant will initially provide 200 new jobs in the Topeka area, and planned future expansions could increase that number to 400 in the near future.
