Cranes Provide Flexibility in Colombia Refinery Expansion

The just-completed Refineria de Cartagena S.A. (Reficar) refinery expansion project in Cartagena is one of the largest industrial projects ever completed in Colombia. The $3.8-billion expansion and modernization increased the refinery's capacity from 80,000 bpd to 165,000 bpd. The modernization of the refinery is particularly impressive as it was completed without interrupting ongoing refinery operation. The project team relied heavily on Deep South Crane & Rigging's advanced and flexible cranes to support expansion activities that included the relocation of the converter island and fractionation tower and a revamp of the existing recovery unit includine a new debutanizer.
