Welders and Bridges: A Historic Partnership

As a core part of the 120,000-member International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Iron Workers Union, welders represent a proud tradition of constructing and retrofitting bridges large and small across North America. Welder training and certification by the Iron Workers International and its labor-management cooperative trust has enabled generations of highly skilled trades-workers to contribute to the construction and upkeep of thousands of bridges for more than 100 years. In fact, International's welders have worked on some of the best-known bridges in the U.S. and in Canada, such as the Woodrow Wilson Bridge in Washington, D.C., and on the retrofit currently under way of the historic Longfellow Bridge in Boston, Mass.
