Boston's Costs Top National Average

The March building cost index for Boston is up 2.4% over 2013's level; this uptick is slightly higher than the 1.7% annual increase for the national BCI. During the same period, the city's construction cost index increased 2.9%, compared to a 2.6% increase for the national CCI. Both indexes got a boost from the resurging housing market, which has pushed lumber prices 4.6% higher than a year ago, compared to a 2.3% increase for the national average.
