Don Brock, a Champion of Asphalt Pavement, Dies at Age 76

For more than 40 years, J. Don Brock served the construction industry as a longtime pioneer and champion of hot-mix asphalt. The co-founder, chairman and former CEO of Astec Industries Inc. died March 10 in Chattanooga, Tenn. He was 76 years old. Also known as Dr. Brock-referring to his doctorate in mechanical engineering from GeorgiaTech University-he obtained during his career around 100 U.S. and foreign patents for construction machinery and drying equipment. Brock was the recipient of many awards, including the National Asphalt Pavement Association's Man of the Year and Association of Equipment Manufacturer's Hall of Fame.
