Recently, a contractor was upgrading the stormwater infrastructure for a northern Virginia city and needed to blast the site to prepare for the excavation for a bore pit. The pit was approximately 40 ft long by 16 ft wide, with a depth of 18 ft. Due to the blasting, the site's red clay soil was classified as Type C-60.
