In a major step toward implementing the water quality goals of the Los Cerritos Watershed Management Plan, the city of Lakewood, Calif., is implementing what is considered the first smart regional stormwater management system. It provides an alternative water supply for irrigation that helps the city respond to California's drought situation by reducing potable water use. The project is funded through a cooperative implementation agreement between the city of Lakewood and the California Dept. of Transportation (Caltrans).
