A strong U.S. dollar that discourages exports, plus election-related hesitancy among some companies to make new investments, have cooled the manufacturing industry's post-recession rebound. Nevertheless, many contractors characterize 2016 as having been a good year, with prospects for even better times ahead. The Institute for Supply Management (ISM) reported that the manufacturing sector contracted in August following five consecutive months of expansion, while the overall economy grew for the 87th consecutive month.
