Decking Solutions: Performance, Cost-Optimized Bridge Building Systems

New Millennium Building Systems has developed two long-life bridge deck systems: Bridge-Dek~® for new construction and rehabilitation, and Rhino-Dek~® to span over brackish water and saltwater. "Whether constructing on or away from the coast, you'll want the flexibility and efficiency that a stay-in-place form system provides," says Gerald Arvay, Bridge-Dek district sales manager with New Millennium. "These systems reduce construction time, create a safe work platform, and readily integrate with steel or concrete girders." While coastal environments typically corrode and decrease a bridge's lifespan, Rhino-Dek is fabricated with galvanized steel and a polymer laminate on one or both sides of the deck pan, and on all exposed surfaces of the forming system. Arvay points to independent testing that indicates Rhino-Dek offers a 124-year service life in harsh environments because it is resistant to corrosion, abrasion and ultraviolet light, and does not require welding.
