Construction starts in the Baltimore metro area are estimated to have increased 15.7%, to $4.83 billion, in 2016, according to Dodge Data & Analytics. The biggest jump was for office construction, which saw $457 million in new starts, a 158.2% increase compared to $177 million in 2015. In residential construction, multifamily homes showed the most growth, rising to $1.5 billion from $970 million, a 52.3% increase.
