Marine contractors that are working on inland waterways are often forced to improvise when capturing and disposing materials in an efficient and effective manner, particularly in shallow rivers and landlocked lakes that do not allow access for large hopper barges. Poseidon Barge based out of Berne, Ind., saw the need for a watertight method of transportation. It developed a 12-cu-yd dredge/rock box that can be picked with a crane and its contents dumped before being set down. These boxes require sectional barges for floatation that was effective for some projects but still not as efficient for all.
