For departments of transportation, the need for fiberoptic cabling is growing consistently. The cables, located in underground pull-box enclosures, must be labeled in order to know which cables are communicating with those in other boxes. This labeling has historically been accomplished by a technician removing the cover of a concrete junction box to clip on a small gauge wire and using a wand to determine where the conduit and wire are located, which communicate from junction box to junction box. "The constant opening of the pull box can be a lot of work for one person, not to mention the liabilities," says Hubble Enclosures' West Regional Sales Manager Greg Isaacson. The covers can weigh up to 250 pounds each.
