Introduction to the World Energy Panel invited keynote papers from the 24th international conference on efficiency, cost, optimization, simulation and environmental impact of energy systems - ECOS 2011, held from 4 to 7 July 2011 in Novi Sad, Serbia

This conference included 330 papers and 394 attendees from 47 countries. One of the key scientific events of the ECOS2011 Conference was the World Energy Panel composed of leading international energy experts, which discussed, with good audience participation, the world situation of energy and its various impacts, and sustainable paths to the future. Since these are review papers containing time-sensitive material, they are being published in ENERGY now, while a special issue of ENERGY dedicated to this conference is in preparation to follow when ready.
