Waiting for Supercon

Over the next 20 years, electric ity sales in the U.S. are projected to increase at an average annual rate of 1.4 percent. We have constructed a model of the electric grid and considered how HTS devices — motors, generators, transformers and cables — would save energy in the grid during this period. For any particular choice of input conditions, the spreadsheet-based model calculates the expected future impact of HTS equipment, and the electricity savings that accrue.
