Desurlufrization of Organosulfur Compounds with Lithium and Sodium

摘要

Dibenzothiophene is desulfurized under relatively mild conditions by metallic sodium in tetradecane at 150 deg C in 24 h to give biphenyl in 99/100 yield after methanol/H_2O work up according to GC analysis. bezothiphene and other cyclic as well as acyclic organiouslfur compounds are desufuized efficiently by lithium or sodium upon heating (254 and 150 deg C, respectiely) in a hydrocarbon solvent.
