ICENES is a very important series of conferences that acted since its first edition as an open forum to dreams, to innovation, to challenges as long as they were addressing the key issue of providing energy for human kind. Earlier conferences were held in Graz (Austria), 1978; Lausanne (Switzerland), 1980; Helsinki (Finland), 1983; Madrid (Spain), 1986; Karlsruhe (Germany), 1989; Monterey (USA), 1991; Chiba (Japan), 1993; Obninsk (Russia), 1996; Tel-Aviv (Israel), 1998; Petten (The Netherlands), 2000; Albuquerque (USA) 2002. The 13th conference is planned to be held in Istanbul (Turkey), 2007 (see: http://www.icenes2007.org/). Among scientists we are convinced that development of sustainable energy production systems is mandatory for the survival of human kind. Today's energy systems are mainly based on fossil fuels (oil, gas, coal) and biomass in its basic form in developing countries. The world population growth and associated energy demand growth especially in large emerging countries (China, India, Brazil, etc.) are requesting from us to develop massive production energy systems because the present day renewable will not meet this base load demand.
